TNT's 'Dallas' Is About to Open a Gas Station in New York

Last week, TNT revealed that it was launching an actual "Ewing Energies" gas station in the U.S. to promote the third season of its reboot of Dallas, the iconic 1980s Friday night soap opera. Now it's disclosing that the location will be in New York while opening for business on Monday just in time for the first episode. Led by agency Grey New York, the gas station could end up in Long Island or Lackawanna or anywhere in between. But let's face it: This publicity stunt will likely end up in Manhattan, Brooklyn or Queens. The involved parties are mum, planning to disclose the location on Facebook during the morning of Feb. 24. If you sell petrol in that area, Grey says you should expect the Ewing station to undercut your prices. And it's not just all talk: There's a New York Times ad this weekend, radio spots, billboards and branded oil trucks. Dallas' Facebook fans can also enter a sweepstakes to win a "Black Gold Card" worth $50 at the forthcoming station. Tricia Melton, senior vp of entertainment marketing and branding for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM), recently stated, "There's no better way to celebrate the return of Dallas than with a promotion that is Texas-sized and audacious." It's unclear how long the gas station will be open. Meanwhile, Dallas' ratings last year disappointed compared to its first season on TNT.
