Fox Cancels The X Factor

Simon Cowell’s latest attempt to salvage The X Factor has come to naught, as Fox on Friday said it has pulled the plug on the series.  Acknowledging the end of his stateside tenancy, Cowell said he would return to the United Kingdom now that his U.S. follow-up to American Idol has been whacked after three underwhelming seasons. “I’ve had a fantastic time over the last 12 years, both on The X Factor and American Idol,” said Cowell, by way of confirming the end of the series.

Saatchi Breaks 1st Work for Walmart on the Olympics

A Walmart campaign breaking during NBC's broadcast of the Winter Olympics comes from a new roster shop: Saatchi & Saatchi, the retailer has confirmed. The campaign centers around Walmart's drive to create new manufacturing jobs in the U.S. Last year, the retailer pledged to buy an additional $50 billion in products made in America over 10 years.

Glenn Greenwald's First Look Media to Release Snowden-Themed Digital Mag

First Look Media, the journalism venture led by former Guardian reporter Glenn Greenwald and eBay founder Pierre Omidyar, has announced that it will launch its first digital magazine next week. The magazine, which will be the first in a series of single-topic online publications from First Look, will focus on Edward Snowden’s NSA leaks. Greenwald, journalist and filmmaker Laura Poitras and The Nation's former national security correspondent, Jeremy Scahill, will oversee editorial operations.

Icann: Brands Are At Risk of Domain Abuse With New Top Level Domains

Icann, the international organization that has begun to roll out hundreds of new generic top level domains over the objections of brands worried about domain abuse, is now warning brands that they are at risk of domain abuse. At the end of last month, the first of what will be hundreds of new domains (suffixes to the right of the dot in a url, like .guru, .photography) went live, adding to the more commonly-known domains like .com and .net.
