Bauer Names David Perel Editor of In Touch and Life & Style

Following his surprise exit from American Media Inc. last August, David Perel has landed at rival Bauer Publishing as editorial director of In Touch and Life & Style, effective immediately. Perel joined AMI as a reporter for the National Enquirer in 1985, eventually rising to editor in chief.

Flipboard Buys Mobile Newsreading App Zite From CNN

Flipboard announced today it is buying Zite, one of its smaller rivals in an increasingly crowded space of mobile newsreading apps. In addition to the acquisition, the deal includes a content and ad sales partnership with CNN. All CNN content will be available on Flipboard, and CNN will create custom magazines for the app from its talent and personalities, starting with Fareed Zakaria, Jake Tapper and John King. Flipboard and CNN also will sell ads together.

Saatchi & Saatchi Finally Fills Its Worldwide Creative Director Role

For the first time in six years, Saatchi & Saatchi has a worldwide creative director. Pablo Del Campo, cd for the agency's Latin American region since 2007, has assumed the global role that Bob Isherwood vacated in 2008. As such, the Buenos Aires-based Del Campo becomes the top creative executive at the Publicis Groupe agency, whose top accounts include Procter & Gamble, Toyota and General Mills.

Ad of the Day: M&M's, Geico Combine for a Delicious Ad Mashup

Geico and M&M's, the peanut butter and chocolate of comic advertising, have teamed up for this tasty peanut-butter cup of a commercial, in which Ms. Brown seeks to get insurance—much to the dismay of Geico's gecko, who has clearly read the company handbook on providing coverage to candy. (The edible are not eligible.) There's a cameo by a third character, too, well timed for this midweek release. M&M's agency BBDO New York led the creative, with input from The Martin Agency, which handles Geico. A social-media campaign on Facebook and Twitter will tell the larger story of Ms.

Arby's Twitter conversation with Pharrell Williams during the Oscars turned out to be another big win for the brand. In a tweet, the fast-food company brilliantly revealed that it had purchased the rapper's Vivienne Westwood-designed hat—which it previously pointed out looks a lot like the Arby's logo—for $44,100 as part of a charity-based auction.

The Awl Plans Official Launch, Names New Editors

Despite The Awl’s five years of existence on the Web, it seems that the news and culture website has never officially left beta mode. Today, the site’s co-founders Choire Sicha and Alex Balk (its third co-founder, David Cho, left to become publisher of Grantland in 2011) announced that next month, The Awl will finally get a formal launch, as well as a pair of new editors.
