Condé Nast to Settle Internship Lawsuit

The Condé Nast internship drama might finally be coming to a close, but not without leaving some serious damage in its wake. Today, Condé CEO Chuck Townsend announced in a memo to employees, obtained by Capital New York, that the publisher is looking to settle a lawsuit brought by two former interns, Lauren Ballinger and Matthew Leib.

Golf Digest Continues Its Quest to Make Golf Sexy

Is Golf Digest the new Maxim? Probably not, but the magazine sure has been making waves recently with a string of racy (by Golf Digest standards, at least) cover photos. A few months back, the Condé Nast title raised a few eyebrows when it paired Kate Upton—admittedly more clothed than usual—with golf great Arnold Palmer for the cover of its December issue.

Mary Murcko Returns to Condé Nast as Publisher of Self

Following yesterday's bombshell announcement that both the editor and publisher of Self were axed, Condé Nast this morning announced the hire of Mary Murcko, who returns to Self from the Gannett Co. where she was president of national sales, overseeing USA Today, USA Weekend and Gannett Digital. Murcko replaces Lara McEwen and joins new editor in chief Joyce Chang, who succeeds Lucy Danziger.

Adweek's Top 5 Commercials of the Week: March 28-April 4

Are you ready for some futbol? Three of this week's best ads center on the FIFA World Cup tournament in June. Nike was out of the gate first with a spot about performing under pressure, but age-old competitors Coke and Pepsi were hot on its heels with two very different spots about the same sport. Also this week, we have a Vodafone ad from the U.K. that takes an unusual tack to sell cell service; and one of the spots from Dermablend's viral campaign, featuring beautiful women speaking frankly about living with severe skin problems.

Ad of the Day: Canon Reflects the World in People's Eyes in Beautiful New Spot

Ansel Adams famously said there are two people in every photograph—the photographer and the viewer. Canon offers its own, somewhat simpler take on that perspective in this beautiful new spot from Australia. The ad doesn't want for ambition, appealing to the notion that each of Earth's 7 billion odd humans holds a unique viewpoint (also, that's not a very narrow target demographic). It'd be easy to quibble with the scope of that statement, but it's not really worth it.

What if Millennials Are … Sort of Like Everyone Else?

Brands are awfully excited about twentysomething consumers right now, and understandably so. Millennial consumers (Gen Yers, we called them, if you remember the 1990s) are now a quarter of the U.S. population and wield somewhere between $200 billion and $1.3 trillion in spending power. Sound familiar? Of course it does. We’ve been reading studies about millennials for years now. And if you keep up with all the surveys, chances are you’re confused as hell.

David Letterman Announces His Retirement During Late Show Taping

Wake the kids and phone the neighbors, because David Letterman is hanging it up after his contract expires at the end of next year. The 33-year late night veteran and host of CBS’ flagship Late Show with David Letterman broke the news to his studio audience during the taping of Thursday night’s show. Letterman in October extended his contract with CBS for a single year, committing to the show through 2015.

FTC Dings Cole Haan for Wandering Sole Promo on Pinterest

Cole Haan's recent Wandering Sole promotional contest with Pinterest got it a slap on the wrist from the Federal Trade Commission. Though Cole Haan only got a letter and not an enforcement action, the FTC's letter sent a clear message to any advertiser that wishes to ask consumers to post good things about them on social media as part of a contest.

Anti-Gay Marriage CEO Leaves Mozilla

Mozilla’s co-founder and recently named CEO, Brendan Eich, is stepping down after his anti-gay marriage support became a source of turmoil within and without the company. Eich rose to CEO less than two weeks ago, but announced his resignation today, after insisting for days that his opponents would not knock him from his role as he tried to focus on leading the nonprofit Mozilla.
