Stephen Colbert Named Successor to David Letterman

Stephen Colbert is moving three blocks east—and light-years from basic cable. The 49-year-old linchpin of Comedy Central’s long-running series The Colbert Report has been tapped to succeed David Letterman as the host of CBS’ The Late Show. Colbert signed a five-year deal with CBS. Colbert’s premiere date will be announced after Lettermen works out a timetable for his final broadcast, which should air sometime in late 2015.

Angie Vieira Barocas Is Leaving Mother

Angie Vieira Barocas has resigned from her position as managing director and partner of Mother in New York. At the moment, the agency does not have plans to fill the position, according to founding partner Andrew Deitchman. “Angie is a wonderful person who's made great contributions to our business over the last four years,” Deitchman told Adweek. “When someone of her experience departs, you're thankful to have cultivated a deep well of talent that are ready to step up.”  Deitchman declined to say who would absorb Vieira Barocas’ responsibilities.

Hulu's head of original programming development, Charlotte Koh, is leaving the company. No details around the departure were provided by Hulu, and the exit is puzzling especially given Koh's profile as Hulu's NewFront presentation nears. Although Tuesday night’s installment of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was heavily promoted as a tie-in to the newly released theatrical hit Captain America: The Winter Soldier, relatively few viewers were on hand to see the ensuing plot twist play out. According to Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, ABC’s lone surviving new fall drama delivered a series-low 5.37 million viewers and a 1.9 rating among adults 18-49.

Senate Confirms Terrell McSweeny to FTC

The Federal Trade Commission is back up to its full strength Wednesday after the Senate voted 95-1 to confirm Terrell McSweeny to be the third Democratic commissioner on the five-member agency, giving the Democrats on the commission a majority. Having five commissioners is critical to merger rulings, which require a majority vote to block or intervene in a transaction.
